Rick Osterloh “Pixel 2” Coming in 2017 Successor to Remain Premium
the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL have been widely regarded as some of the best Android devices that one could purchase in 2016. These devices are considered Googles answer to the Apple iPhone, showcasing the fruits of a thoughtful culmination of hardware and software.
If you enjoyed the Pixel and the Pixel XL and were looking forward to what Google had in store for 2017, we have some good news to share. Googles Senior Vice President of Hardware, Mr. Rick Osterloh, has confirmed that the Pixel lineup will have a successor this year.
Speaking to AndroidPIT at MWC 2017, Mr. Osterloh mentions that there are plans in place for creating a Pixel successor.
You can count on a successor this year, even if you dont hear a date from me now.

Furthermore, the Pixel will remain in the premium category. Repeated questions during the round table discussion led to the same answer: no cheap Pixel from Google. The lower price segment in the Android market will be left for other manufacturers to fill.
If we know that a new Pixel is in the making, the next question that inevitably pops up is when the industry can expect it to be released, to which Mr. Osterloh replied:
There is an annual rhythm in the industry. So, you can count on us to follow it.
Google has tasted some success with the Pixels, as Mr. Osterloh comments that there are too few devices to meet consumer demand. The two Pixel phones frequently go out of stock, which suggests that the demand for these phones could be exceeding customer demand.
We hope to hear more about the next phones in the Pixel lineup in the coming months. We also hope that Google considers expanding the Pixel lineup beyond the premium category to include a few mid-tier smartphones as well.
What are your thoughts on the Pixels and their eventual successor? What should Google look to change in the next generation? Let us know in the comments below!
